When it's something bigger

"When it's only about you, you do what's best for you. But when it's about something bigger that you, you do what's right, not what's best"
Nelson DeMille
writing in "The Panther"

DeMille is not a professional in our business, and likely has not written anything about teamwork per se, but his thought -- expressed above -- certainly drives right to the nub of the issue in teamwork: there's no personal success without team success, and that often requires subordination of personal optimization.

Of course, it (successful teamwork) also requires reciprocal trust, personal integrity among all, respect for and commitment to the mission, and personal accountability. That's all part of "doing what's right".

Agile anyone? Or for that matter: a traditional team?
